Story Of Shahana Zafor:

Dr Shahana Zafor, currently the director of the Fundraising Department at Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), usually makes a good first impression. A recent rendezvous on a Friday was no different. Within a few minutes of the conversation, Shahana's leadership qualities seeped in. It was the eloquence in her speech. It was clear that she leads. In 2004, Shahana's marriage officially came to an end. Her son, Ahmed Fahad, was only six years old. But problems emerged much earlier. Shahana faced familial opposition but prioritized her son Fahad's education and personal development, sacrificing her own career aspirations. Despite financial constraints, she ensured Fahad received quality education and participated in extracurricular activities. Her resourcefulness and unwavering support shaped Fahad's success, evident in his role as a senior vice president at Pathao. Shahana's values, influenced by her father's emphasis on education, guided her decisions, reflecting her resilience and dedication as a mother.

The Decision to Go Solo: 

The path to becoming a single mother is often filled with difficult decisions and life-altering circumstances. Some single mothers become so by choice, while others find themselves facing unexpected circumstances like divorce, separation, or the loss of a partner. Regardless of the circumstances, single mothers embark on a journey that demands immense courage and determination.

The challenges of single motherhood:

When speaking about challenges, all three mothers detail somewhat varying accounts, which prove that motherhood is a unique journey for everyone. The biggest challenge or rather annoyance has to be dealing with unnecessary, personal, and intrusive questions from people.

The most common question they face "When they joined the workforce,  What does bhai (husband) do?" In addition,  the attitudes of people change, especially that of men, who cast nasty glances as soon as they come to learn of her single status. Moreover people can't accept the fact that mother is enough for a child to raise them well enough. They had to face the society who is always ready to blame the mother for each and every step they take.

Financial Challenges and Resourcefulness: 

Raising a child alone comes with significant financial challenges. Single mothers often face the burden of being the sole provider for their family, which can create stress and pressure. However, they demonstrate extraordinary resourcefulness, finding innovative ways to make ends meet, seeking out assistance programs, and pursuing their own professional development to secure a stable future for themselves and their children.
