Mathematics is a language

Hello world. It's 2024.

Let's start by solving a challenge.

I need 100 tk to buy a T-shirt. So I asked my mom, and she gave me 50 tk.

Then I asked my dad, and he gave me 50 tk more. I bought a T-shirt costing 97tk,

and I have 3tk in my pocket. I gave 1tk back to my mom and 1tk back to my dad.

This means I have to return 98 tk more and have 1 tk left in my pocket. 98+1=99tk.

But wait, where did 1tk go?

Some of you who are good at maths might already have figured it out.

For others, let's solve an easier problem.

One day, I went to a shop to buy a packet of biscuits. It costs me 30 tk. I gave 100 tk to the shopkeeper,

and in my head, I calculated 100-30=70, the amount the shopkeeper returned to me. What was the logic

behind the 100-30? Why not 100+30? And what's the difference?

Let's see. First, divide the scenario into two sections. One is the keeper's amount, and then the other is

my amount. Why stop there? Let's name them accordingly. spKprAmount and myAmount.

Now let's find the scenario before I paid->

spKprAmount---myAmount

30 --- 100

Here, the shopkeeper has a biscuit packet worth 30 tk,

and I have a note worth 100tk.

Now let's see the scenario after I paid ->

spKprAmount---myAmount

100---30

-70---70

-----------

30---100

That's mean I have 30tk worth biscuit and 70tk

work Cash and the shop keeper have cash worth

30 tk. That means nothing has changed with

respect to amount. Yes I could have used unit

instead of that but I liked the "amount" keyword

more comfortable.

Now let's get back to our previous problem. Let's again

divide the scenario into two sections. Pay back amount -> payBA

and I own -> i_own.

payBA ---- i_own

100 ---- 100

100 ---- 97+3

100-2 ---- 97+1 => 98 ---- 97+1

Now what I had done was I just added the 1 from i_own to payBA

which is logically incorrect. But the idea was thrown at you in a long

scenario just to get you off from the track.

Now what was the purpose of my examples and how does it match the title?

You see in language what we do. We just name everything. An idea, object,

action, imagination, person and everything. The names should be decided and

confirmed by all who will be using them because there is no logic behind using

different names for the same thing.

A name is just a way to reference something.

Running is referencing an action.

Sea is referencing a scene of enormous amounts of water. It's really hard to show

what is what through words. Because the references are decided in front of the

object or action or that thing which we are naming. But we just don't stop at naming.

We add rules to modify the names and identify its behavior more specifically and that

is called grammar. Of course we are not going to name every single time block and

every possible combination of something. It will be a huge amount of data to use and

know about.

In mathematics or science. We are doing the same thing. We are naming all possible

scenarios just to represent it to another person and show the difference among other

scenarios. It's very likely to recreate the scenario if we can identify it already. But remember

that we identified the unique case doesn't mean we can recreate it. There are a lot of theories

and cases that we can not recreate.

If you have read all of my words so far maybe you will understand what science and research

means. It's just to identify some scenario and show the difference with respect to others then

give it a name or represent it with other available symbols we already have. Yes we have

grammar in these symbols too like any other language just to use the already defined ones.

They are called rules. Moreover you will also understand why we don't say someone has created

this or that scenario. We say he discovered it.

Yes of course it's hard to extract a unique idea from everyday events.

If you are reading these lines congratulations if you didn't skip. I hope I have changed your

perspective at least a little bit. Let's recap what we said so far.

We name something to represent it to others.

We add rules or grammar to make it concise.

We can also refer to a group of references.

We connect the references in order or make it different.

Normally we just identify and accept what is correct logic.

But it's really really important to identify what is wrong logic and it's really hard to come up with

one. That's all from me. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you and see the world with a different

perspective.
