Exploring Langkawi: The enchanting beauty of the jewel of Kedah

Tourists who visit Malaysia are always advised to make time to visit Langkawi. Why? It’s simple. The breathtaking beauty of Langkawi never ceases to amaze the viewers.

I had the opportunity to visit Malaysia last year with my family and during my stay, I explored Langkawi. Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands. However, it was not possible to visit all of the island thus I only visited a few. But visiting the islands is not the only thing Langkawi offers. To explore Langkawi efficiently, guidance from a guide or online guidebook is recommended to make the best use of time.

The day my flight landed on Langkawi, it was raining. The weather of Malaysia is quite unpredictable. The rain comes and goes away in a blink of an eye that it feels as if the rain is having mood swings.By the time we got our luggages the rain had stopped. As soon as we got out of the airport, the shining sun and its warmth greeted us maliciously. The temperature was so high that I was skeptical about our plan to explore Langkawi. I felt that in this weather, I would rather stay in the hotel room with AC on than go outside. On our way to the hotel, I noticed that there were a very few tourists on the road. I had many questions in my mind about why there are so few tourists when Langkawi is such a popular tourist destination. However, I got the answers very soon in the evening. Because of extreme heat, tourists avoid going out in the daytime and as soon as the temperature cools down during the evening, the streets start to bustle with tourists.

I have visited many places in langkawi. I shall state a few which impressed me the most during my stay.

Cenang beach:

We stayed at a hotel in Pantai Cenang. The hotel was very close to the beach. Thus, on the very first day we decided to go to the beach to watch the sunset and the evening view. This is not the first beach I have ever visited thus I wasn’t very impressed however, the evening view took my breath away. It was breathtakingly beautiful. The sky was like a messy color palette of a painter. Different colors were harmoniously merged.

Island Hopping Tour:

This was the most exciting and must do activity in Langkawi. This package includes 5 to 7 island visits and a few activities included. A boat will pick up and drop off on every island. We took the 5 island visit package, however we only visited 3 islands as me and my family were tired after exploring 3 islands and needed rest.

On this tour, I was mesmerized by the game light played with the sea. Sometimes the ocean was blue as the sky, sometimes green and sometimes dark blue.

The exciting part of this tour is that your boat may stop in the middle of the sea. Yes! You read it right! Our boat’s engine suddenly stopped working in the middle of the sea with no other boats or anything at sight other than the sea itself. An hour later a new boat came and we continued our journey. Personally, this accident was exciting and funny to me. I take this incident as something significant that made my visit more memorable.

The first island we visited was the pregnant lady island. The name may sound funny however that’s exactly how that island looked like. However, one cannot stop and explore this island. This rule was made to protect its environment and greenery. This island is mainly for viewing purposes.

The next island we visited was the eagle island where one can feed eagles. People drop the food in the sea and eagles with their strong wings dive into the sea and pick up the food.

The last island we visited did not have a name however one can explore that island. After climbing more than 400 stairs, we discovered this island is mostly to let tourists experience the fun of swimming in the sea as normally it’s not allowed to swim in the sea. However, since we were not prepared and didn’t bring any extra clothes, we decided to take a rest there for a while and left.

The main joy in island hopping is the boat ride. As the weather is very hot, the strong wind calms people down and makes them feel energetic. Moreover, the constantly changing scenery is truly a blessing to the eyes.

The Cable Car and The Sky Bridge:

In the beginning, The sky bridge was not popular until Shah Rukh Khan filmed a popular scene of his ‘Don’ movie here and then this place blew up. Countless people came to visit this place. Thus, now the sky bridge is a very popular tourist spot.

To visit the sky bridge, you must take the cable car. The cable car is fully made of glass thus when you look outside, you can see how high you are currently from the ground. For me it was both exciting and frightening as I constantly had the thought of falling down.

The sky bridge ranks among the world’s longest curve suspension bridges. It is very stable and the view from this bridge is breathtaking. When I was walking on the bridge, I was taken aback by the beautiful mountains on one side and the blue sea behind it. It was like a two-in-one package. One can enjoy both scenery together.

Moreover, we also visited a 3D Art Gallery. It will not consume much time as it's a very short trip but very a interesting place to visit.

Not only the scenery, even shopping in Langkawi is fun. Since it is a duty free island, tax is excluded in everything there. What I liked to buy the most from there is chocolates. Because of importing and taxes, chocolates are quite expensive in Bangladesh. However, the prices of chocolates in Langkawi were less and had many varieties. Therefore, as a chocolate lover I bought chocolates to my heart’s content.

The memory of Langkawi is something that I really cherish as it is filled with joy, excitement and bliss. Hence, I recommend everyone to visit this place if an opportunity arrives.
